Show season is in full swing and if you attend a local or national dental show you will be inundated with technology choices. These shows are a great way to get a lot of information in a short amount of time. The key is to approach these shows prepared. I recommend taking a few steps before adding any technology to your practice.
First, do your research. Gather information about the technology products you are considering before going to a show. Use information from dental websites, publications, your dental representatives, other practices and your staff – always get your staff involved. As you do this research, analyze how it will fit in your practice and who will be most involved with its implementation. During this phase, write down every question you have.
Next, see the technology live. A show is a great place for this. The key to this is to bring your questions and your time. Don’t try to squeeze in a quick look between show courses. Plan on spending several hours on the show floor. And be sure to include any team member who will ultimately be using the technology (practice management software – include your office manager, CEREC – include your assistant and office manager, digital X-ray – include your hygienist and/or assistant). If your team is not able to attend the show with you, plan on narrowing your search at the show and then scheduling another demo in your office so they can attend.
Here are some important questions to make sure are covered in every technology demo:
How will the product integrate with other technology products in your practice?
Where/how is support handled?
What are the warranty costs for at least 5 years?
Customize each demo for the way your practice runs
We will be at the upcoming Chicago Midwinter show – stop by, we would be happy to give you a demo on our technology products!
