As we mentioned previously, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced updates to the HIPAA Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules. These updates were published in a new regulation popularly called the “Omnibus Rule.” The Omnibus Rule became effective in spring 2013 with a compliance date of September 23, 2013.
How is Patterson Addressing the Omnibus Rule Changes?
Patterson is committed to ongoing compliance with HIPAA and to help enable our customers’ compliance as well. One important element of Omnibus Rule compliance is the Business Associate Agreement (or “BAA” for short). This contract provides assurances that Patterson (acting as a “business associate” to our “covered entity” customers) will safeguard the confidentiality and security of patient data in our custody. The Omnibus Rule changes provided Patterson an opportunity to review its Business Associate Agreement and update our BAA to align with the regulation.
Where Can Customers Find Patterson’s Updated Business Associate Agreement?
For the benefit of our customers, we published an electronic copy of our updated BAA here. We encourage Eaglesoft, Patterson Imaging and CEREC customers to review, sign and return Patterson’s revised Business Associate Agreement as soon as possible.
If you have questions about Patterson’s BAA, please do not hesitate to call our support specialists at the Patterson Technology Center.
