At some point, many dental professionals come to realize their dental office is no longer meeting their unique and changing needs. With this realization comes difficult questions. Do I expand my existing space or buy, lease or build a new one? What equipment and technology do I need? How should I configure my space? How many operatories do I need? What can I afford?
For Thomas Volck, DDS, this realization came when he noticed the changing needs of his patient base and staff. Located in Vandalia, Ohio, Dr. Volck’s practice started out as a 2,000-square-foot space with four operatory rooms.
But as his business grew, his office started to feel a bit cramped. “Over the last five years, as I added new technology and continued to grow my business, I even turned a breakroom into a fifth operatory room, and it still wasn’t enough,” said Dr. Volck.
As his business continued to grow, it became obvious to Dr. Volck that he needed more room. As the growing pains became more evident, the task of building a new office seemed overwhelming. That’s where Midmark came in.
“I knew what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure what I needed to do. I had little understanding about everything involved in building a new office. Luckily, my Midmark sales representative, Matt McLaughlin, suggested I should attend the company’s ImpactDesign seminar.”
Working with his Patterson and Midmark teams, Dr. Volck eventually made it through the design process that included a tour of Midmark’s manufacturing floor and the opportunity to experience the equipment and technology first-hand.
His new office opened in 2018, with 6,000-square-feet of space in a very clean, professional open design. Dr. Volck looks back on the whole process as a complete success.
“I brought on an additional associate, and we are now producing 30 percent more than what we were producing in our previous location,” said Dr. Volck. “We went from seeing about 180 patients a month to now about 270 a month. My patients love the new facility and the Midmark chairs. My team loves that they now have space to work comfortably.” Read Dr. Volck’s full case study here [PDF].
