While Patterson Dental territory representatives are busy selling DentaCheques books throughout the year, dentists across the country are providing dental care through Donated Dental Services (DDS) to patients who are desperately in need of dental care they can’t afford. Most of the time volunteers receive very little public recognition for their generosity, and truly don’t expect any.
Dr. Jeffrey Lodl of Arvada, Colorado, was honored with the “7 Everyday Hero Award,” a recognition program sponsored by the Denver ABC–TV network affiliate, Channel 7. Over the years Dr. Lodl has treated numerous patients through DDS, providing more than $100,000 in free care. One of those is Tammy, who expresses her profound sense of happiness and gratitude: “I have back my beautiful smile, and I have him to thank for that. I was disabled and financially I was unable to continue going to a dentist. I look good, I feel good, I have no pain, he makes me comfortable, and I am blessed. Dr. Lodl is my everyday hero.”
DentaCheques is one of Dental Lifeline Network’s largest sources of funding for Donated Dental Services. While volunteer dentists and labs donate their time and materials, funding is needed to support their work and provide patient screening, referrals and care coordination. Ultimately, each DentaCheques book that is purchased generates $1,300 in dental care.
