In addition to the blog you’re reading right now, the new pattersondental.com supports a simple online communication standard called RSS that you can use to review convenient Patterson news updates.
RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. You’ve probably seen the symbol on websites so often you don’t even notice it anymore.
RSS has been around for many years, but it’s never been more convenient to use. In a nutshell, RSS publishes content from one website to another piece of software (an RSS reader) for more convenient consumption. RSS makes it easy to monitor dozens of blogs and websites with a quick daily glance at your reader.
To use an RSS feed like the one available on offthecusp.com or pattersondental.com, you need an RSS reader of some kind. Everything from configurable dedicated RSS readers like Google Reader to information dashboards like iGoogle and MyYahoo to your web browser can publish an RSS feed.
Below are instructions for how to publish the RSS feed for pattersondental.com news to Google Reader, iGoogle or MyYahoo (for publishing to a web browser or another software, the raw feed is located here. Simply copy and paste the code into the appropriate software).
- Visit pattersondental.com.
- In the lower right corner in the Patterson News box, click “View All News”.
- From the News page, mouse over the “Subscribe” area on the right-hand side of the page and click the MyYahoo or Google links.
- Click the appropriate button on the Google orYahoo landing pages.
Done! Here’s how the pattersondental.com News and offthecusp.com RSS feeds look as “widgets” on iGoogle.
Today pattersondental.com supports RSS in our News area, but we’ll be adding it to other areas of the site in the future (like local events).
Let us know what you think. Are there additional communication tools we could support to provide you information and updates more conveniently?
